Acupuncture

12Acupuncture involves the insertion of extremely thin needles through your skin at strategic points on your body. A key component of Traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture is most commonly used to treat pain.  However, we at the Natural Health Center, use Acupuncture as an adjunct for lifestyle changes and as a "whole person healing system", which includes Traditional Chinese dietary changes and herbal therapies.

Traditional Chinese Medicine explains acupuncture as a technique for balancing the flow of energy or life force — known as qi or chi (CHEE) — believed to flow through pathways (meridians) in your body. By inserting needles into specific points along these meridians, acupuncture practitioners believe that your energy flow will re-balance.  This is similar to Chiropractic practitioners, who believe that removing small interferences in the neuro-musculo-skeletal system will have broad-ranging effects on the body and brain, including a sense of wellness.

This stimulation appears to boost the activity of your body's natural painkillers and increase blood flow.  We have specifically looked at the hormone called cortisol, which is responsible for a wide-ranging effect on the body, one of which is pain relief.
